While you could just open a bag of chips (and let’s be honest: usually there’s nothing wrong with that), sometimes it’s nice to put a little more effort into a snack when you’ve got people over for drinks. That doesn’t necessarily equal more time though, as these delicious crostini will prove.
This is an elegant party bite or appetizer made in minutes. It can hardly be called a recipe, it’s really more the combination of a few ingredients. A combination with great results, that is.
The sweet pear is always a winning match with cheese, and it’s just perfect with the sharp, tangy blue cheese. Put them on a sliced baguette and under a hot grill, drizzle over some honey for a sweet stickiness and you’re done.
If you have some extra time: sautéing the pear (in some butter and honey) first makes these bites even better. And grilling the baguette rounds before adding the toppings would also be an option.
I love to use a sharp type of blue cheese, like Gorgonzola, but other types (Roquefort, Fourme d’Ambert) work well too. Use goat cheese or ricotta instead of the blue cheese if you’re looking for a milder variation.
